Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.

 ~Miriam Beard

In May, I spent three weeks in Southern California. It was an amazingly unique trip loaded with great people, the freshest of foods and daily surprises. It was basically a working trip with play experienced in good measure. It opened my eyes and my heart. It reminded of who I am and what's important. It gave me ample opportunity to practice what I preach (trust Spirit - they have our backs). It gave me the time to know what comes next (facing another layer of buried issues and healing them once and for all). I walked on the beach and was blessed and healed by the Mother of Water.

I didn't teach. I did go to the farmer's market. I spoke only to small groups, not large crowds. I drank coffee with friends, new and old, and laughed at the antics of the dogs where I stayed. I drove a SUV that I would have never picked and loved it. I watched the playoffs and remembered why I like basketball. I planned business trips carefully given the distance one drives in California and the gas prices. I read a whole book in 3 days! I meditated. I was quiet. I sat with sisters from Ventura through Santa Monica to Huntington Beach and out into the Valley. I openly celebrated friendships that blossomed - In other words, it was the most perfect trip that didn't follow my plan at all.

I came home refreshed, both personally and professionally. I came home with more peace in my heart. I came home knowing that love is everywhere we turn if we will receive it. (Haven't I heard that one someplace before?)

I just realized that I write this same article every year about this time. Hmmm-- Do you think there is a reason we should travel, if just for a day or a weekend? We are a part of this great whole that we call Earth. It is important to get out and experience the richness again and again. This seems especially true with what is going on in the world, naturally and human made. Perhaps the last thing I will say about traveling, for the moment, is how much we are connected. I enjoyed the splendor of our diversity while feeling the comfort of our sameness.

Joyful summer and travel to you,

Kim
