Existential Angst

(aka: life review and birthday growth, step 2)

It is good to do a life review once a year or so. It is a natural part of the birthday growth cycle, and, if we pay attention, actually serves a great purpose. For me, the questions started slamming into consciousness with no pause for actually reflection. Have I given enough? Have I forgiven enough? Have I loved enough? Have I apologized enough? Have I recycled enough? Have I laughed enough? Have I shown my kids I love them enough? Have I been quiet enough? Have I saved enough? Have I listened enough? And that was just the first 30 seconds.

Boy, was I feeling pathetic. In the middle of all that, I met a dear friend at the airport for a quick bite during his layover. He made the mistake of asking me how I was doing. I couldn’t help myself; I launched into my existential angst. He was present and loving and allowed me to talk all the way through my heartfelt quandry. Then I laughed and then he laughed and wished me happy birthday (more laughter). We started talking about rightful life with the choices and decisions. We laughed about the fact that we are always doing exactly what is right for us or we would be doing something different. Or, “it is what it is.” I began to feel myself again. And, I realized that questioning one’s life is a very important part of personal responsibility, freedom and therefore, choice.

In the past, it seemed that it usually took a near death experience to get us to wake up and look at our choices more closely. It is effective but so painful. I’ve taken the two by four to the head enough times. I am glad to simply have a gentler, annual review. Even the “cry at the drop of the hat” syndrome is better than making a dash toward the light and being sent back to “try it again.” I’m glad I’m learning to pay attention without the dramatics.

So, now that I’m past the whinny part, the question still remains, am I creating what I want to be creating? It is so amazing to be consciously living in choice. Perhaps, a bit overwhelming from time to time since this is a relatively new consciousness and will take a bit of getting used to. I love the creativity of it, the exploration, the possibilities. I love the fact that no one is going to tell me I can’t do something. I love being in charge of my life and knowing that there are no wrong choices – really, truly. I love that I can learn by way of joy and love instead of pain and sacrifice.

It leads me to think of the people who have come before and done extraordinary things totally out of the context of “normal” life. It also leads me right back to the fact that, according to my Life Line Clearing, I have more than double my years left in this body. This is cool. This is exciting. So many choices and I can only do them one at a time.

Hmmm-- I think I will sit on my patio, have an ice tea, stare at the sky and play with possibilities until I find the ones that make me jump for joy. Who knows where I will be writing this next week.

Love, light and joyful blue moon to you,

Kim
