Postcards from the Road - Lessons

It has been over a month since I have written. In that month, my life has changed so dramatically that it is hard to keep up with myself! I have learned a lot. Lessons and epiphanies have been coming in small herds at the speed of light. It has been exciting and, as many of you know, I am a growth junky so this kind of enlightenment is right up my alley, even if it takes me longer to assimilate the information than it used to (pre-move). There is a direct correlation between exhaustion and the function of my brain. So here are a few of the things that I can remember learning in the last month, in no particular order.
  1. Pacing pays off: It is the quintessential “Tortoise and the Hair” story. The more I push, the slower I go. It became very apparent that, when I slowed down, took care of myself and enjoyed each moment of each event, more things got done faster and more thoroughly. There was definitely greater satisfaction knowing each task was completed in the best way possible (without being retentive.)
  2. Which brings me to not being retentive: There is thorough and there is retentive. It is nice to know the difference and relax into thoroughness as opposed to obsess in retentiveness. Everything is not perfect to the standards I was brought up with. However, the paperwork is simplified, ninety nine percent organized and I am moving with the knowledge that there is very little to do when I get to my new home other than to unpack and enjoy being in South Carolina.
  3. Being in the moment: This was, is and will be my motto: I drove 13 out of 15 hours without turning on the radio or CD player. I enjoyed the scenery including the subtleties of the desert; driving, in and of its self; interacting with strangers; watching all those thoughts and epiphanies pass through my brain; and a million other moments that I would have missed in my usual multi-tasking mode. Being in the moment is heaven on Earth.
  4. Spirit has my back: Over and over again, I need to learn this. I would start to go into worry, release it, and the right thing would happen. We have lived so long in a world that embraces fear, letting go of the expectation of wrong events is a challenge. Every time I let go, magic happens. Don’t you know that I will keep this practice up!
  5. I did not need to learn this. I did, however, get to receive this over and over. The love of friends: Every time I opened the door to love (also experienced as help, support, kindness and every other form known to us) it was there, waiting and eager to enter. Friends offered so much help that it was more than I needed. My home was almost entirely packed by a very dear friend. I have places to stay every step of this adventure. People have been present to listen, advise, and assist though the changes in the market in ways I would have never known possible. Clients have stayed steady, been forgiving and understanding through the move, the worst case of pneumonia I have had in years and being out of commission for days at a time. Thank you all for more gifts of love than I can acknowledge here. I am deeply moved and humbled by your love and generosity.
Often, people ask me if the world is worse off or better off now than in the past. I have always said and, again it has been shown to me, that where there is love, there is healing. Where there is healing, there is a bright future. I am greatful for the opportunity to travel and continue to support you in healing and creating the amazing future that is, in fact, already here, when we let the love in.

Hugs from the road,

Kim
