What is an Act of Love?

As I was doing a Fire Ceremony1 to clear my home at the end of a particularly busy week, I received a very clear message from Spirit that it was for my highest and best to offer acts of love. I began to ask the obvious questions. What did they mean? Did I need to find a volunteer project or give money to a worthy cause or — what? As I calmed my mind and listened with my heart, a clear message came that I needed to act more lovingly toward myself. My body would share with me what she needed and wanted to experience for my health, if I would only listen.

This seems so simple and yet, I knew that this was big stuff and going to take some focus. I began literally asking my body what she needed and wanted. Do you want this or that for breakfast? Do you want a nap or a walk? I began to develop a relationship with my body that I had previously ignored. Ease and a sense of well-being began reemerging from some forgotten place. Perhaps it was childhood? I knew this was a source of greater wisdom untapped.

I began to have conversations with the rest of me — heart, mind and soul. What a great adventure! I live my life always open to the wisdom of the Universe yet closing myself off to my greatest source of practical knowledge; my whole self. Still, in the simplicity, it seemed complex. And yet, I had always had these intuitions. After all, this is how we truly move through our world even though we are taught to defer to other's expertise.

This morning a friend reminded me that breathing (and all of its iterations) is an act of self-love. What a simple thing and yet, breathing is something that most of us don't do really well. Could the next phase of healing simply come through breathing more consciously, deliberately and joyfully? I have learned to breathe more intentionally through yoga, tantra and the healing modality of Resonance Repatterning. It is time to practice what I preach.

What about other forms of self-love? There is, of course, eating consciously. This is something generally not honored on Super Bowl Sunday. (I will see how couscous I can stay.) What would happen if I listened to my body instead of following the formula? What would happen if I listened to my most innate wisdom?

There are many acts of self-love; sitting quietly, gardening, reading, getting lost in art, laughing, meditating, dancing through the living room to a new CD, talking with a friend over tea, and so many more. So, perhaps, it is not as much the act as it is more being conscious that these are the acts of self-love. That then allows me to take in the healing that is offered through these actions. It comes back to being present with self. Being present with self is, in and of itself, an act of self-love as well as being the vehicle of other acts of self-love. How cool is that! It is like getting a double dip of every favorite thing!

Hmmm -- Which one shall I engage in next? See you after my walk around the lake.

Love in action to you!

Kim
