I just got a lovely note from a client. She spoke of the silence that comes to us at times and equated to the silence after a long battle. In that silence, we don’t know what to do next. Our energy has been so focused that an abrupt ending to that focus brings a welcome yet uncomfortable silence. It is just such a silence I have experienced since moving to South Carolina.
Some of us have noise in our heads, more or less depending on the day, the dreams, the number or type of people we are interacting with or a million other variables. You may have friends that always have on a TV or radio or both. Most times it is to cover that noise. For some, we simply experience a white noise; a background buzz that never turns off. The medical world calls it tinnitus and had developed a drug that can give some relief sometimes.
Others hear voices, loud pings, or clangs and may have pain; dull or sharp associated with the noise. It is incredibly uncomfortable and rarely spoken of. All the noise is a result of either unfiltered communication through transmediumship or telepathy.
These are two separate abilities though are often confused and can feel like they are the same. Transmediumship or channeling is the ability to partially or completely leave one’s body and allow another entity to work through it. An example of a positive use of this ability is Ester Hicks, who channels Abraham. The other place we see this most often is with alcohol or drug addiction. The personality changes with consumption because the soul that is responsible for that body leaves allowing an open vessel for anything or anyone else to enter.
Telepathy is the ability to communicate with one other person or a group of people without using the voice. “People” can include ghosts, Spirit guides, fairies, animals and other sentient forms.
The point about the silence is that, when it comes, after a lifetime of noise, it is like a breath of fresh air on a heavy, hot and humid day. You listen for it. You wait for it. You don’t believe it. You have wanted it your entire life and never thought it possible. Then, the absolute beautiful silence goes away. Every morning you wake listening for the silence to be disappointed, yet again. Will it ever come back? Was it real? What makes silence?
The silence can come again. I found it through taking a vacation. Not working with the public for more than a week brought the silence back to me. At first, I didn’t notice it because I had stopped listening for it, as one does. Then, in a moment between sips of morning coffee, I heard it again; that sweet, pure soundless stillness. For those of us that live with noise, silence is palpable. Mine is smooth like water with no wind. It is deep and rich. My body relaxes in a way that is never possible when sound is there.
That is because, when there is noise, there are people attached to that noise; someone in need, someone who wants to talk, and someone with an issue to be resolved. That is my noise. Some never have the luxury of understanding the nature of their sound. It drives them crazy – literally. They have been institutionalized, had electroshock therapy and been medicated until they can’t get in their bodies. Others take up drinking or drugging or cutting in an attempt to quiet the voices and sounds. All of these people have a gift. Every person that has noise in his or her head has a gift.
The gift is simply not understood. I was taught how to filter the noise so mine has been fairly minimal. I was taught to release the big noises, set protection, engage with Spirit for further protection and keep the rude and inappropriate people out of my space. I was taught to choose what I hear and give attention to. Yes, I can still hear alarm systems if I am tired or running a slight fever (because they are in that same range). Yes, the noise gets louder at a funeral or anyplace there is a mass of people. Yes, sometimes it comes with seeing ghosts or physical pain.
I am lucky. I was able to keep my gift quiet until I was in a school where everyone had sound in their heads. We laughed with those that heard cries when the grass was cut. Were they fairies or some other Spirits of the Earth? It doesn’t matter. It matters that the cries were heard. It also matters that things like this are a tremendous burden to children.
In school, heads always nodded in knowing when someone spoke of lying in bed at night and hearing the hearts and dreams of everyone sleeping. We smiled at remembering talking with unborn children and wondering why the parents weren’t listening. We shuttered with hearing other peoples stories of the battles fought at night acknowledging that we had all be out on the battlefront together. Mostly, we were relieved that we could share these experiences and have them accepted as truth and normal.
So, here is to the sound of silence! I raise a glass in gratitude and joy. I wish for all of you that have an “antenna” tuned in to the sounds of the Universe to experience silence; that your work cease for, at least, a few minutes and that you feel the relief of hearing nothing. And to the rest of you, may you understand us a little more and relish the quiet you hear on a daily basis.
Wishing you the joy of silence,
